Invited to The Washington Nationals Youth Academy

Earlier this month we shared The Other Boys of Summer with the Nat's Youth Academy. We watched the film with players and families members of their "Hustle" travel baseball/softball program. Charlie Sperduto, Director, Advocacy & Community Engagement for the Washington Nationals Youth Academy hosted the panel discussion following the film. The panel included Filmmaker - Lauren Meyer, Negro Leaguer - Pedro Sierra, Keith Barnes and Coach Raphael - coaches for the Academy and Mamie Johnson Little League.

Pedro Sierra was the last Negro League player to be signed by an MLB team and attend spring training. He was invited to the Senators spring training by none other than Ted Williams. We were also lucky to have a special guest join us - Curtis Roberts Jr. Curt's father was the first African American to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The photo in the lower right corner is Curt and his Dad (he shared this with us).
