NBC Sports finds The Other Boys of Summer a Very Valuable Program
NBC Sports hosted The Other Boys of Summer for their employees recently. Following a screening of the film Marvin Pittman, Manager, Content Integration NBC Sports Group moderated a great discussion with Bob Kendrick, President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and Lauren Meyer, Filmmaker/Director. Attendees joined from all across the country, watched the film and had the chance to ask questions and participate in the conversation. Marvin made a great connection pointing out that NBC Sports Group is HQ'd in Stamford, CT the town Jackie Robinson called home after his MLB career. Stamford boasts a park and a statue honoring the trailblazer. Robinson with his wife Rachel and family hosted many events/concerts at their Stamford home where they would raise money in support of the SCLC, NAACP and civil rights activism. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and many influential people attended the gatherings. Duke Ellington and Dizzy Gillespie were some of the jazz greats who performed there. Did you know that the Robinson's stayed with Carly Simon's family at their Stamford estate while their home was being built? Richard Simon (Carly's father) was part of a group of residents who advocated for the right of the Robinson's to move into their neighborhood. He was also the co-founder of publishing giant Simon & Schuster.
